Amber Heard's testimony on May 6 against Johnny Depp sparked claims on social media that the actress's statement in court was literally copied from the movie "The Talented Mr Ripley".

However, some media outlets took responsibility for conducting a fact-finding analysis to find that Heard's testimony looked similar to the dialogues of Gwyneth Paltrow in the 1999 film, but in fact her statements were not copied.

International fact-checking site Snopes and Newsweek news magazine reported:

"Rumors that Amber Heard quoted the film" The Talented Mr Ripley "in her testimony are false. Those phrases were not uttered during her testimony."

Snopes explained:

"Memet says the quote came from Heard's 'opening statement'. This is a strange claim because it was Heard's lawyer, not Heard himself, who made the opening statement on her behalf."

The media also shared that no video evidence was found to support the claims that Heard said that phrase.
