Tom Cruise was greeted with a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, where he was honored with the Palme d'Or Award.

The star of "Top Gun: Maverick" cried from the Golden Palm, which is the most prestigious award at the annual film festival.

"Thank you for your time. I make these films for all of you," the Hollywood star told the audience.

Cruise also praised his collaborators at Paramount for the latest on-screen venture in the sequel to "Top Gun."

"They all worked hard to bring this to the big screen and it 's a dream to be here. "I will never forget this evening," he said.

The president of the festival, Pierre Lescure, handed over to Cruise the award that has been given to only 15 people in the past.
