There are some places in the world that are so surreal and beautiful that when you first see their photos, you normally think they will be from some movie set design. But while the small town of Giethoorn in the North Holland may seem like a movie based on a children’s fairy tale, this fascinating place built on a network of narrow canals is completely real.
A population of only 2,600 people and few tourists, give Giethoorn the sights of a quiet picturesque town that most people can only dream of. Even his site says that "the loudest sound you can hear is the voice of a goose or the chirping of birds."
And while it is so common that the postman also distributes mail by punt, a kind of flat-based square boat, it is easily accessible by car from Amsterdam and has various types of attractive B&B, so it can certainly be your stop during the visit future in Europe.
Or see plenty of pictures and then close your eyes and imagine yourself gliding lightly between thatched-roofed houses and wooden bridges, under the soft early morning sunlight.
