In a new interview Camilla Parker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall, spoke about her relationship with Prince Charles after 17 years of marriage, and recalled the criticism she faced after the death of Princess Diana.
She admitted that it is not easy to find time to spend with Prince Charles, due to their hard working hours.
"It's not easy sometimes, but we always try to have a point in the day when we meet," she told British Vogue. "Sometimes we are like boats that spend the night, but we always sit together and have a cup of tea and discuss the day we spent. We have a moment. It's nice to talk when we have little time. You know, when we leave, the most beautiful thing is that we actually sit and read our books in different corners of the same room. It's very relaxing because we know we do not need to talk. We just sit down and be together. ”
Camilla and the Prince of Wales had an affair before they both married other people, she to Andrew Parker Bowles, a British Army officer whom she divorced in 1995. They have two children together, Tom, 47, and Laura , 44.
Prince Charles married Princess Diana and welcomed sons, William and Harry. They separated in 1992 and officially divorced in 1996, after betrayal by both parties.
Camilla happened to be in the middle of their drama and did not have the sympathy of the people, especially after Diana's death in 1997.
"It's not easy," she told the public reaction at the time. "I was observed for so long that I had to find a way to live with him. Nobody likes to be watched all the time and criticized and… But I think in the end, I got up and went on. You have to go on with your life. ”
Camilla married Prince Charles in 2005, taking over her royal duties. In February, the Queen formally endorsed Camilla as the future Queen's wife, which will happen when Charles takes the throne. At a royal meeting that month, the Duchess said she was "very honored and very touched" by the gesture.
