Instagram is exploring new ways for teens to verify their age and abide by the platform rules.

The app is testing video selfie with facial analysis software as a new age verification method. Some Instagram users try to bypass the age rule over 13 by modifying the date of birth to make them look over 18 years old.

But American teens will now be given three ways to verify age: upload an ID, ask three adult users to confirm it for them, or take a selfie video.

Meta says he hopes the new methods will ensure teens have an "age-appropriate experience" on Instagram.

The tech giant has previously faced criticism for the safety of teens and children on its platforms.

Parents and guardians of teen Instagram users were given additional tools to oversee their child's Instagram experience earlier this month. They can now set time limits and view the details of any reporting their child makes on the platform.
