Cuneyt Arkin, one of the most famous actors in the history of Turkish cinema, has died at the age of 85 due to a cardiac arrest.

He had long been ill and was being treated at a private hospital in Istanbul's Besiktas district.

Today, Arkin was escorted to the last apartment surrounded by his family, wife Betul Cureklibatir as well as other relatives, as well as thousands of fans.

Cuneyt Arkin, whose real name was Fahrettin Cüreklibat? R, was born in 1937 in the central province of Eskisehir and starred in over 300 films.

A graduate of Istanbul Medical School, Arkin quit his job as a doctor and became a leading figure of Yesilçam.

One of his most famous films was the 1982 film The Man Who Saved the World.

Arin completed his military service in Eskisehir, where he met with director Halit Refig. After working for some time as a doctor and completing his military service, he joined a competition held by 'Artist' magazine. He won the competition and started his career as an actor.
