Ana de Armas, the actress who plays Marilyn Monroe in the movie "Blonde", has been overwhelmed by a flood of criticism for her accent. Many film critics, but also fans have the opinion that De Armas does not portray the actress properly.

The Monroe biopic is based on Joyce Carol Oates' novel and depicts Monroe's rise to fame. "Blonde" will be released by Netflix on September 28.

After the trailer was released in late July, some observers said they could easily understand De Armas' Spanish accent in her portrayal of Monroe.

De Armas was born in Cuba and acted in Spain before moving to Hollywood. In an interview with the Times last year, De Armas talked about the struggle to perfect Monroe's accent, even noting that it took nine months of dialect training: “It took me nine months of dialect training and practice. It was a great, exhausting torture."

Meanwhile, many well-known actors, colleagues of De Armas, have come to her defense, and even praised her performance as exceptional.
