Today, Albania celebrates its 110th anniversary as an independent state. On November 28, 1912, Ismail Qemali raised the flag in Vlora, declaring Albania an independent and sovereign state. This is one of the most important days for all Albanians everywhere in the world and in Albanian-speaking lands.
With the act of the Declaration of Independence of Albania, the President of the Provisional Government, Ismail Qemali announced the six Great Powers: England, Italy, Austria-Hungary, France, Germany and Russia. The Balkan states were also notified: Romania, Montenegro, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey, asking them to recognize their independence, as a natural consequence of the will of the Albanian people.
The Act of Declaration of Independence constitutes one of the most important events in the history of the Albanian people. It was the fruit of the centuries-old efforts and wars of the Albanians, to protect the territorial integrity of the homeland and to form the independent Albanian state. With the decision of the Assembly of Vlora, the Albanian nation won its undeniable right to be free and independent, alongside the other nations and peoples of Europe.
