Sex scenes are common in many movies and TV shows, but the process of filming such a scene can be more complex when an actor is really excited.

According to an intimate scenes coordinator, a professional who guides the actors and crew through impromptu sex and nudity scenes, it's normal for filming these types of acts to evoke many emotions, including excitement.

David Thackeray, an intimacy coordinator for studios such as Netflix, Warner Bros, Apple TV, BBC and HBO has revealed what happens when a cast member gets excited while acting in a sex scene.

He said the key to handling any excitement is professionalism. Thackeray explained that intimacy coordinators follow specific protocols to handle arousal.

Thackeray said that during sex scenes there can be a break for a number of reasons, including excitement.

When this happens, it is the job of an intimacy coordinator to respect the needs of the actors and normalize what they are experiencing.

"Rather than gloss over it or point the finger, in these scenarios we give everyone a quick break." We call it time-out!” says David.

It is something that happens and is inevitable. That said, in everyone's best interests, it's important to prepare the entire crew before shooting sex scenes.

"We also tell the crew about the scenes that will be shot, so that they are aware of the nudity they will see and are not surprised."
