The famous Greek singer Vassilis Karras has passed away at the age of 70.

The beloved popular singer, also known to the Albanian public, who for about two years was facing cancer, a serious health problem. Meanwhile, recently he was also affected by COVID-19 and was being treated in a hospital in Thessaloniki.

Karras has been a star on the Greek folk music scene for more than a few decades. At the age of 16, he made his first appearance at the Prosfygas nightclub in Evosmos, Thessaloniki. At the same time, until that period, he worked as an auto mechanic.

His records went gold and platinum, while the biggest commercial success was the record "You Made Me a Thug", (m'exeis kanei alitis), which sold more than 180,000 copies.

In 1980 he released his first album entitled "Paragkes Kai Palatia", which had a great impact on the world of Greek music, mainly on his followers.

Later, Vassilis Karras' records and songs became hits within a few years, where he managed to become the number one popular singer in Greece in terms of audience.

He has also sung successful duets with many well-known singers or musical groups such as Marianthi Kefala, Pyx Lax, Konstantina, Anxhela Dimitriou, Tolis Voskopoulos, Nikos Zoidakis, Kaiti Garbi, Despina Vandi, Elli Kokkinou, Irini Merkouri, Paola, Pantelis Pantelidis, etc.

The artist was also a composer and lyricist on many big hits of the Greek music scene.

Vassilis Karras is a well-known artist even for Albanians, having given several concerts in Tirana and Korça.
