Succession, Beef and The Bear were the big winners at the Emmy Awards, which took place in Los Angeles. Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen all picked up acting awards while Succession also won best drama series.

Also at the ceremony, Sir Elton John won his first Emmy Award, finally giving him EGOT status. This means he has joined an exclusive club of performers who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. His nw Dodger Stadium concert won best live variety special, marking the British singer-songwriter's first Emmy nomination and award. However, Sir Elton was unable to receive the honor after undergoing knee surgery.

A spokesman accepted the trophy on his behalf, describing the win as "historic" and saying Sir Elton had "created the soundtrack to all our lives and has done so much for society".

Other winners included The White Lotus and Abbott Elementary. Succession, the critically acclaimed drama about a media mogul and the power struggles among his dysfunctional family, ended last year after four seasons. It was rewarded by winning best drama series and the awards for writing and directing, while Snook and Culkin won best actress and best actor, respectively. As the ceremony was the 75th Emmys, several famous TV cast members reunited on stage - including stars from The Sopranos, Cheers and All in the Family.

The Emmy Awards, which were presented by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, were delayed by four months due to the Hollywood strikes.

The nominations were announced in July and the ceremony was originally planned for September, but strikes by writers and actors meant that very few nominees would have been able to attend.
