Marriage is a big step in our lives that marks a new phase, not necessarily a simple one. While love and a romantic relationship itself are complex, there are some ways to work on keeping it alive and healthy for as long as possible.
One of these ways is precisely related to the idea of ??'overcoming' several important stages of the relationship to then be crowned and finalized with marriage.
1. The romantic phase
You are filled with adrenaline and passion, feelings which translate into the happiness hormones, cortisol, dopamine, oxytocin, and vasopressin.
These hormones increase alertness, pleasure, motivation, confidence, connection, sexual intimacy, attraction, while reducing sadness, fear, and boredom.
In this stage you fall in love, believing that you have found your soulmate and that nothing can go wrong. For many people, this stage is where the decision to marry and propose is made.
2. The phase of the struggle for dominance
The honeymoon phase, unfortunately, is not likely to last long. After a few months, it is replaced by another phase: attempts at dominance.
At this point you will discover that in fact, your partner is not so perfect.
You will try to restore them to the person they were in the beginning, without realizing that this version is, in fact, their true self.
3. The stage of "mature" love
Whether before or during the "Battle for Dominance" phase of your relationship, you should consider premarital counseling.
With guidance from a trained relationship therapist, you can learn an effective way to communicate better, resolve conflicts, and deepen intimacy.
