Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai has been named the winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, praised for his profound, visionary style and ability to reflect on fear, chaos and human resilience through art. The Swedish Academy described his work as “a universe where darkness and hope coexist poetically.”

Krasznahorkai is known for his unique writing style – with long, flowing, and introspective sentences – that immerses the reader in the labyrinths of modern existence. In his works, he explores the fragility of social order, the relationship between spirit and destruction, and the boundaries between reality and the absurd. Through this approach, he enriches the tradition of European literature, recalling the influence of authors such as Kafka and Balkan writers who combine philosophy with human experience.

The 71-year-old author is known for novels such as Satantango and The Melancholy of Resistance, which have been translated into several languages ??and adapted into films by director Béla Tarr. His work has been described as a vivid reflection on fall, hope and salvation - an attempt to find light amidst darkness.

Krasznahorkai is the second Hungarian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, after Imre Kertész in 2002. With this victory, he joins the world elite of writers who have profoundly influenced contemporary literature.

The award includes a gold medal, an honorary diploma and the sum of 11 million Swedish kronor (about $1.2 million), crowning a career that has proven that art can be the strongest force in the face of the absurdity of the modern world.
