A sweet paradox of nature
Although it seems unbelievable, a banana is technically a berry, while a strawberry – no! This classification has nothing to do with taste or appearance, but with how the fruits are formed botanically.
How a banana "manifera" is born
In botany, a berry is a fruit that develops from a flower with a single ovary, with the seeds scattered within the pulp. This is exactly how a banana develops: from a single ovary that ripens into a soft, skinned fruit.
While strawberries… are not
The opposite happens with the strawberry. It is formed by many joined ovaries, which create its structure with many seeds on the surface. So, despite being associated with berries, in scientific classification it is not one of them.
When science concludes the logic of taste
This “sweet mistake” is a small reminder that nature doesn’t always follow our intuition. Bananas are berries, strawberries are not – and that makes the world of fruit even more magical. Because in the end, regardless of the name, each of them remains a miracle of taste and life.
