With flags and songs from the balconies - this was the Liberation Day in Italy today. Far from gathering and going out, as would happen every April 25, Italians celebrated differently today. They placed flags on the windows of the houses and sang songs all together.

When the clock struck 15:00, citizens sang the song "Bella Ciao", an anthem of resistance.

President Sergio Mattarella wanted to remember the fallen with an almost private homage. This morning, the Italian President visited the national monument of Vittorio Emanuele II, in Rome, alone and with a mask.

" All those who are at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus manifest a spirit that honors the Republic and strengthens the solidarity of our coexistence." This is what President Sergio Mattarella said in his message for the April 25 holiday, which appreciates the work of all doctors, nurses and workers who are moving Italy forward in this difficult period.

" Together we can do it and we are showing it," said the head of state. On a day of remembrance and celebration, the coronavirus has caused the festivities to shift from streets and squares to apartments. In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Italy, President Mattarella laid wreaths at the monument to the Altar of the Fatherland, with a completely desolate square.

April 25 is the symbolic day of the people's struggle for resistance to the militaristic policy of fascism and its liberation of Italy from partisan forces at the end of World War II in 1945.

Usually, veterans marched through cities across the state, but these events were canceled after the coronavirus pandemic crisis.

All of Italy has been isolated since March 9, when nearly 26,000 people died during the disease.

Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerin has called on people to overcome the crisis by mentioning the values of unity and solidarity throughout the resistance shown in World War II.
