Lack of bodily confidence in British women has reached a 'critical level', according to a new report.
More than 10,500 female participants from 13 different countries were interviewed as part of the Dove Global Beauty and Confidence Report.
The report found that women in the UK have one of the lowest self-esteem scores in the world, with only 20% saying they liked their body and appearance.
The last place was Japan, where only eight percent of women said they were happy with their appearance.
South Africa, on the other hand, emerged as the country with the most self-satisfied women, with more than 64 percent saying they have a high rating for the body.
We need to help empower women and girls in many ways, including increasing education about physical confidence, conducting meaningful conversations about the pressures women and girls face, and how women and their appearance are spoken and portrayed in the media. .
Dr Susan Paxton, who was involved in the research, said she hopes the findings will spur a call to action.
"Women are under a lot of pressure to conform to beauty ideals and the report shows that social media is posing a new challenge and increasing the pressure to look a certain way," she said.
The Dove Global Beauty and Confidence Report, which received responses from candidates aged 10 to 64, is the third and most comprehensive study Dove has undertaken on this topic, drawing on two previous studies published in 2004. and 2010.
